Sebastian's Voodoo vs. 9

I just saw '9' over the weekend and it reminded me alot of Sebastian's Voodoo (which I saw first).

Sebastian's Voodoo was a very moving short animation. I thought it was essentially perfect for what it was.

Had I seen Shane Acker's short film '9' before I saw the feature film, it could have been in contention with Sebastian's Voodoo. But sadly, that was not the chronology of events.

'9' makes a better short than it did a feature length film. The movie was pretty good but the ending was lacking. In fleshing out the characters and plot of '9', the whole film lost an element of curiosity and allure. Now that I know the who/how/what/why of it all, I am disappointed in the ending. It made me wish I hadn't know. Then I saw the short film at the end of the DVD and wondered why they decided to flesh it out at all. The 9.58 minutes was much better.

Anyhoos, I hope they don't make a feature film on Sebastian's Voodoo because that would ruin it. And also, you should still check out '9' because it's good up until about the last fourth and that three fourths is still worth a viewing. And ALSO, I love short films, animated and otherwise. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

In other news, I'm in development for my new blog. I'm trying to make a blog that has a central theme since I've been really here and there with all my blog content. It's still in the works but this new blog is supposed to be about San Jose and Bay Area life. Mostly food reviews. And if I do any cool activities, I'll film it too.

I have the worst blood, EVAR!

I've been spending alot of time addicted to Korean dramas lately. South Koreans seem to follow a belief that your blood type indicates your personality and compatibility with others( apparently this belief stems from Japan). So I looked mine up. I am type AB and according to this website the Japanese believe I have the worst blood type of them all. booooo!!!

" Type AB

People with blood type AB are hard to categorize. They can have characteristics on both ends of the spectrum at the same time. For instance, they are both shy and outgoing. They easily switch from one opposite to another. AB people are trustworthy and responsible, but can't handle it when too much is asked of them. They don't mind doing favors or helping out, as long as its on their own conditions. People with this blood type are interested in art and metaphysics.

AB is considered the worst blood type. In predictability-loving Japan, they're loose cannons. They also like to set their own conditions and reserve the right to drop out when things don't meet their expectations. They're known to be sensitive and considerate—at times—but it just isn't enough to balance out the flaws in this blood type. For a while, some companies tried dividing their employees into work groups based on blood type, and no one wanted to work with the AB group. Anime villains are likely to be type AB. "

Well on a positive note, I am compatible with all blood types. yay! and Jackie Chan is a famous type AB. yay! Check yours out today.

Loyalty

I met Vincent through a friend over a year ago. We are somewhat long distance (Millbrae to San Jose). He has been nothing but nice to me, but lately, my eyes have been wandering...

nah dood, this isn't about relationships. This is about my hair stylist.

So overall I'm happy with Vincent's cuts and prices and he always listens to what I want (though what I want isn't always the best). My sister came home the other day with a pretty adorable hair cut from a salon that is much closer than Millbrae. hmm...to stray or not to stray. One haircut won't hurt, right? What Vincent doesn't know won't hurt him? I'll let it grow out before I go back to him, IF I go back at all...
but, but, I found Vincent at a time when I was unhappy with my past experiences, going from one hoity toity salon to the next. Or from one cheap and talentless salon to the next. decisions decisions...

Why I don't like Loogies

Since I'm currently in a state of loogie production due to the flu, I repeatedly gross myself out on a daily basis by spitting loogies. And it totally reminds me of my deep rooted hatred for them stemming from a childhood nightmare.

As a child, I dreamt that I was eating a bowl of pho, or some equivalent Vietnamese noodle soup, when I took a bathroom break. My classmate whom I didn't like lived in the house behind mine. He then hopped over the fence, ran through my back yard and got into my house because we only had the screen door closed. Then he went to my bowl of pho and spit a loogie in it. A large green loogie. GROSS!!!

Oh, and aforementioned classmate is a real person, a person we run into at the clubs quite often.

Cotton, I'm sick, give me a kiss.

mm...juicy

Cuz Twitter is awesome

EDIT:
ok fine, to be fair, here's a positive view of Twitter

I am Jane...

A female mentor once told me that it is perfectly okay to be emotional. It is how we learn as females. Don't let anyone tell you it's silly, it's ridiculous, it's irrational, it's stupid. Remembering pain is how we learn not to touch hot stoves again. Emotions are how we feel connected to the world. In fact, I pity men and their math and sciences, their logic and common sense. Even with all that, they will never feel the depth of human connection the way women do. We're not being over emotional, they're just missing out.

Because I'm Asian like that...

Here's some more paddling related talk. Come check out the SF International Dragon boat Festival at Treasure Island this weekend.

Hike, Hut, Ho!

I am always extremely excited and proud to see paddling sports gain any media attention. As some readers know, I paddle dragonboat, but I also started paddling outrigger. So you can see why I'm so excited to have been introduced to the following trailer for a documentary about Hawaiian paddlers crossing 1600 miles from island to island on a 6 man outrigger.

Beyond the Reef

I'd like to add some personal notes about things mentioned or shown in the trailer.
1) Their 6 man outriggers have seat covers that zip up around their waist to prevent water from flowing in since they're paddling rough ocean waters. Unfortunately, I have never sat in one of those. boo

2) They are paddling 1600 miles which is extremely ambitious since the longest races I've heard of are only 19 miles and already very exhausting.

3) You see them switching paddlers from off the large boat but during our races, we do water changes. This requires having paddlers in the water and hopping out while they hop in. It's cool to see.

4) At 1.52 you see the steersman in the back, that's what I do! Except I'm not as good as him.

So anyhoos, since this was a big long post basically recruiting people to paddle, here is the link to my team that practices in Redwood City.

The world needs to get over Kanye West and start writing more than 140 characters

I can't believe Larry King brought Dr. Phil on to discuss Kanye West's actions at the VMAs. What's more ridiculous than what he did to Taylor Swift is how much attention he's getting for it. Kanye West is a douche, but can you really say you were surprised? I wasn't. Now do we really have to watch Dr. Phil break down Kanye's actions and analyze what kind of person he is? NO, NO WE DON'T!

Personally, I think Kanye should get back with Alexis Pfifer cuz Amber Rose don't stop her man from acting a fool.

(P.S. I know that by writing this, I am giving him more attention. But who reads this blog anyway.)

And no offense to Twitter but...actually DIRECT offense to Twitter, but apologizing to ppl in 140 characters or less is lame.

(P.P.S. yes, I have a twitter account. Hypocrisy, I tells ya. bwahahaha)

For Your Knowledge: GMO foods

Maybe it's because I went to Davis, a school and community largely based on agriculture and science, that I became more aware of biotechnology and genetically modified food issues, but I think people should watch this documentary. I am becoming more interested in documentaries like this and Super Size Me. I think it is very valid to question where your food comes from and what you are putting in your body. You don't have to go nuts and become off the grid-hippies but sometimes it is good to question what's in your Big Mac and why it is that we have recalls on produce for ecoli contamination.

I support Farmer's Markets and organic foods and if I had more time and knowledge, I would definitely cater my diet to be all organic. Find out where your local farmer's market is and check it out. If you don't buy anything, it is still a cool place to go. BTW, I came at the end of the day once and scored 10 asparagus for a dollar and she tossed in a free bag of romaine lettuce. FREE FOOD IS AWESOME FOOD!

Hot Women Part Deux

The Miss Universe Pageant 2009 has just concluded and Venezuela won, again. USA 7 wins, Venezuela 6, the rest of the world behind.

yeah, Stefania Fernandez is pretty...

But this is why 2007's Riyo Mori is still my favorite Miss Universe

I first learned of Riyo from MTV's Pageant Place which was yet another reality show about 3 beauty queens under one roof. I found Riyo to be very stylish, sweet, and drama free (which is just my type of person). If you would like to check out a sample of the show, please follow this link.

2007's 3rd runner up, Honey Lee of Korea was also one of my favs.

Hmm I've introduced you to so many hotties now, I feel like this site is quickly becoming guy-centric

Christina Hendricks is a Hottie Patottie

Until Mad Men starts again, I'll probably be egging along AMC's efforts to promote the new season. And you know what, they're doing a damn fine job of it. Please view the evidence below and tell me that doesn't make you want to watch Mad Men?!?!

Christina Hendricks, aka Joan, posing for Esquire Magazine.

Her boobies, do we think they're real? My vote, is yes. Mami's tata's look like they'd jiggle.

Sunday

In Two Weeks

As alluded to in the previous post, I am a big fan of Mad Men.

I dig the style of the 60's and the quiet rebellion underneath those conservative exteriors (dood you know those folks were the raunchiest). Well if you scroll down, you'll see that I had myself quite some fun creating a Mad Men version of myself. In my pre-season 3 rush to find sneak peeks and promos, I stumbled upon Dyna Moe's flickr. Apparently she's the brains behind the Mad Men Yourself doo-dad. Her art is awesome!

Friday

Cotton and Emma's Day of Fun!

I took Cotton to meet Phil's Emma for a play date. Watch as the drama unfolds...

In other news:
Thanks to a special type of Jam, I got hooked to the show Mad Men and can't wait til the next season starts. But following in the footsteps of said Jam, I Mad Men-ed myself.

As you can see, if I lived in the crazy advertising world of Mad Men, I would be an office lady with a martini.

I should be on Youtube

I like what this guy is doing.

He started a Youtube channel, the more views he gets, the more money the channel gets and he will send the proceeds to a charity. Plus he goes to UC Davis so I gotta support my Aggies.

BUT what I'm more interested in is that this kid raised $1,218.57 for uploading some random ass videos of himself and his campus. Umm...I uploaded random videos of my campus. and I earned jack shit from that. I should be on Youtube man. I could be making mad coin!

Toy Camera

Sher to the Bear experimented with her "toy camera" and showed me some results.

Gosh it hurts to be this smart - this is my gchat picture but since no one could see it, that line made no sense. Does it make sense now?

You can see two images of me and one of Kathy.

Your eyes do not deceive you, indeed I float in trees.

Just so you know, I finished 1105 out of 1174 10K participants. ummm...congrats? haha

Friday

Does anyone watch this?

As you know, I'm a hulu hore. yes I am. and I stumbled upon The Loop. Does anyone watch this? cuz they should.

Here's a sample episode. The show has potential but it might've been canceled? I'm not sure.

The Stye Eye

*EDIT*
The eye got worse the day after the video was made. My doctor says it's much more than a stye. So never mind, this is not a stye. This is a bacterial infection of the tissue around the eye (blepharitis? I'm not sure)

Check out my gas prices per gallon and total spending last year.

Twitter Needs to Know About This

*Got that from The Superficial which I got from Lannie*

Because I'm so hip, I don't have a text messaging plan. And as such, I am getting charged per text messages I receive. But I think I'm finally going to jump on that bandwagon now since everyone likes to text so much that I'm getting charged just as much to read text messages I didn't choose to receive. Society, you win. I will purchase a texting plan.
